Is it possible to be a champion of the underground / alternative scene and to continue to be culturally relevant, prolific, popular (yet subversive), and, for want of a better word, cool, all at the same time? I believe David Byrne answers all those questions with a resounding Yes.
Much has been written about David Byrne’s musical career with the Talking Heads and his collaborations with Brian Eno, but perhaps there is a reason to try and draw more attention to his work offstage – his political awareness, cultural exploration and curiosity, and his championing of the bicycle.
Check out his website and take a look at some of his great writing – he is a testament to what it truly means to be curious, engaged and inspired by the world around us. Not just a musical legend, but a cultural hero too!
